字源 FORM — what the parts do
出 to go out over 買 to buy: goods sent out across the counter — the other side of buying. The top, now flattened, was once plain 出. Money comes in, the thing goes out: that is to sell — 賣東西; turn the going-out on a person and it is 出賣, to betray.
