ITbì → mì — initial and tone shifted off the donor
The altar (示) with 必, which lends the sound — bì worn to mì. 說文 reads it 神, the divine: what belongs to the spirit-side, hidden from ordinary view. From the sacred-hidden comes plain hiddenness: 秘密、神秘、秘書. (The grain-side variant 祕 writes the same word.)
