Water (氵) with 雚 guàn, the bird that also sounds 觀 and 歡. Pour water steadily into a field until the soil drinks it down — to irrigate (灌溉, 灌田). From pouring something into a vessel: filling a recording (灌錄), and pouring ideas into a head (灌輸). The same 雚 makes 罐 (a jar) when it takes 缶.
