TSUMUGU · B1 (est.) · 字
昏
昏 = 日 + 氐
ㄏㄨㄣ · hūn
noun — dusk — adj — dim, dark; dazed, faint
字源 FORM — what the parts do
氐義low, sinking down — the part now reads like 氏 (clan) under the sun
A sun (日) over a part now shaped like 氏 — and the old graph carries two tellings of it. In one, that part is 氐 abbreviated, low, the sun gone down below the ground. In the other, it reads as 氏 itself, carrying the sound. Either way the sun sunk low is dusk, and from dusk: 昏暗 dim, 黃昏 the gloaming, 昏迷 to lose one's senses, go dark.
故事 STORY — a scene to remember it by
太陽沉到地底下,天色一點一點昏了下來。
The sun drops below the ground, and the light goes dim by degrees.
