A woman (女) and the sound 夷 (yí), carried straight across. This is the aunt on the mother's side, 阿姨、姨媽, and by extension the wife's sister, 姨子. 夷 alone draws a man with a bound bow (大 + 弓) — level, even-tempered, the far peoples; here only its sound is on loan. In everyday speech 阿姨 also stretches to any older woman you address politely.
