noun — the third heavenly stem; third in a series
字源 FORM — what the parts do
丙形the spread base of a stand, under a flat top
A flat top set on a stand spread wide at the foot — the old graph for a base or rest, steady at the bottom. Long borrowed for the third heavenly stem, and so for third-in-order, 丙等, 甲乙丙. As a sound it still anchors 炳 (bright) and 柄 (a handle).
故事 STORY — a scene to remember it by
一張平頂的几(丙),底下兩腳往外一撐——穩穩地立在那兒。
A flat-topped stand (丙), its two feet braced outward — settled firmly in place.
